Pope of the Vatican, continues his historic trip to Iraq to hold an unprecedented meeting between the spiritual leader of one billion and 130 million Catholic Christians in the world and the supreme Shiite authority, the Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani entered Najaf.
As soon as he arrived, a closed-door meeting between Pope Francis and Shiite cleric Ayatollah Sistani began in the Iraqi city of Najaf.
According to international media, 90-year-old Sistani, who never appears in public, meets with the Pope at his simple home in Najaf, 200 km south of Baghdad.
The two will hold one-hour closed-door meetings, two years after the signing of the Human Brotherhood Document with Dr. Ahmad al-Tayeb, Sheikh al-Azhar.
