Syria is on the verge of reopening the embassy in Saudi Arabia.
On the eve of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Syria and Saudi Arabia, a Syrian media reported on the recent visit of a technical delegation from the Syrian Foreign Ministry to Saudi Arabia in order to prepare for the location of the opening of the Damascus embassy in Riyadh.
Al-Watan newspaper of Syria, quoting media sources in Riyadh, announced: “The delegation has examined the prerequisites for the reopening of the Syrian embassy to solve the diplomatic affairs of Syrian citizens, as well as the reopening of the Syrian consular affairs in Riyadh, during its trip to Riyadh, but according to the evaluations field, reopening and repairing this embassy is not possible in the current situation and it takes time.”
This media source further added: “Given the urgency of the two countries to resume bilateral diplomatic and consular relations, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs may be forced to temporarily rent another building in order to restart the previous embassy building for its one-month repair.” Slow down.”
This source revealed: “The opening of consulates and the appointment of diplomats may be done at the end of May or early June.”
It should be mentioned that Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Damascus last April 18, after 12 years since the last visit of a Saudi minister to Syria.
In March 2012, Saudi Arabia closed its embassy in Damascus and severed diplomatic relations with the Syrian government.
Earlier, “Sputnik” news agency reported that after ten years of breaking relations, Saudi Arabia plans to reopen its consulate in Damascus. Last month, knowledgeable sources told Sputnik that Saudi Arabia is considering reopening its consulate in Damascus. According to these knowledgeable sources, Russian and Emirati mediation has led to the removal of obstacles between the two Arab countries, and it is possible that the Saudi consulate in Damascus will be reopened in the near future.
