France’s concern over world food insecurity as a result of developments in Ukraine.
The French president has proposed a plan that calls for measures to ensure food security around the world.
French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a world-wide emergency plan to ensure food security and prevent a breakdown in “vulnerable countries” as a result of the Ukraine war.
The Ukraine war has led to a significant reduction in world grain exports. Russia is the largest exporter of wheat and Ukraine is the fourth largest exporter. Dozens of countries depend on wheat production by these two countries.
After the NATO summit and the G7 summit, Macron called on Russia to show responsibility and allow the production of agricultural products in Ukraine. “We are entering an unprecedented food crisis,” he said.
Without the export of this product by Ukraine, an “inevitable famine” will await some countries in another 12 to 18 months, AFP reported. Egypt and North Africa are currently facing severe grain shortages.
In the guise of the President of the Council of Europe, accompanied by the African Union, Macron proposed an “emergency food security plan”. Among the provisions of this plan is the release of stocks in the event of a crisis to prevent grain shortages and prevent their price increases.
Another provision of this plan is the multilateral commitment of countries not to consider sanctions for the export of agricultural raw materials.
