Canada’s Citizen Lab investigates cyber space, global security and human rights.
This laboratory announced that the new program was designed by an unknown Israeli company called Quadrim.
The company was founded by a former Israeli military official and former employees of NSO, the company that created Pegasus.
Citizen Lab, which monitors the misuse of new electronic systems, further announced that five people were spied on by this program in North America, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
The laboratory disclosed: The list of victims includes journalists and opposition political figures and an NGO employee.
At the same time, the mentioned laboratory announced that it does not disclose the identity of the espionage victims at this time.
According to the report of this laboratory, after installing on a mobile phone or laptop, the said spy program records conversations and external sounds and camera images and searches in the folders of the devices without the user’s knowledge.
The app can also generate two-factor authentication codes, i.e. password and security code, to ensure continuous access to the device owner’s accounts.
Citizen Lab added that the spyware has a self-destruct feature to hide itself when not in use.
The lab identified users in 10 countries that received statements from victims’ devices, including Israel, Singapore, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, and Bulgaria.
The company marketed its spyware to government clients in Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Ghana, Indonesia, Morocco, and more.
