NATO claims: Sanctions stopped Russia’s advanced weapons production.
The head of NATO’s military committee claimed that Russia had halted the production of advanced weapons due to international sanctions, but acknowledged that Moscow’s industries could still produce large quantities of ammunition.
Rob Bauer, the head of the military committee of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), claims that global sanctions against Russia have stopped the production of advanced weapons by this country.
In an interview with Reuters, Bauer claimed that Russia had stopped producing advanced weapons due to international sanctions, but acknowledged that Moscow’s industries could still produce large quantities of ammunition.
He told Reuters on Saturday morning: “They (Russia) are more and more under the pressure of sanctions because some of the parts they needed for their weapons systems came from Western industries. “We are now seeing the first signs of the sanctions affecting their (Russia’s) ability to produce cruise missiles and advanced weapons.”
“As far as we know, the Russians still have a significant industrial base and can produce large quantities of munitions,” said the NATO military official, while pointing to the challenges Russia and Ukraine face as they need to source conventional weapons at a high rate. ».
According to Reuters, Bauer said that about 85 percent of Russian forces are now at war with Ukraine, which reduces Moscow’s ability to expand its military presence elsewhere.
These claims come at a time when a senior American government official, who asked not to be named, told CNN that he was disappointed that the international sanctions had not had a greater impact on the Russian economy.
