Tunisian judicial sources have announced the arrest of former President Monsef al-Marzouki.
Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper reported that sources in the Tunisian court of first instance said that the judge in al-Marzouki’s case had issued an international arrest warrant for him.
Tunisian President Qais Saeed accused al-Marzouki of “conspiracy against national security” and vowed to revoke his passport.
Saeed called on the Tunisian Minister of Justice to launch a judicial investigation into al-Marzouki. Al-Marzouki, meanwhile, denies the allegations.
Tunisia’s president ousted Prime Minister Hisham al-Mashishi in a decree on August 3, and in addition to suspending parliament, revoked the parliamentary immunity of all members of parliament, sparking protests across the country.
Since the emergency measures were taken, a number of Tunisian parliamentarians, including the opposition, have been either detained or detained on various charges.
