Thursday 9 September 2021 neighbors countries of Afghanistan issued a joint statement supporting the reconstruction and establishment of peace in the country, stressing that terrorist groups should not be based in Afghanistan.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries stressed the need to support the country’s territorial integrity and independence and to help rebuild and establish peace there.
The foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s six neighbors (Pakistan, China, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) attended a virtual meeting focusing on developments in Afghanistan, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
“With the evacuation of foreign troops from Afghanistan, the people of Afghanistan must determine their own future and be allowed to put into practice the Afghan-Afghan-led peace and reconstruction process,” the statement said.
The statement added that the foreign ministers of these countries “recognize that developments in Afghanistan have once again demonstrated that there is no military solution to it and stressed the importance of establishing a comprehensive political structure in Afghanistan with the participation of all ethnic groups.”
“Members of the UN Security Council must take responsibility for rebuilding and building peace in Afghanistan by supporting the development of social and economic infrastructure and providing vital assistance to the people of Afghanistan,” the statement said. The international community must not abandon the people of Afghanistan.
The countries present at the meeting stressed the importance of cooperation in addressing common challenges, strengthening cooperation and friendly relations in the neighborhood, and promoting peace, stability, regional relations, people-to-people relations, economic, trade and investment solidarity for the benefit of all. They declared their support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and non-interference in its internal affairs, noting that the future of Afghanistan must be determined by its people in accordance with the United Nations Charter.
The statement stressed that the territory of Afghanistan should not be allowed to pose a threat to other countries and that terrorist groups such as ISIS, al-Qaeda, etc. should not be allowed to establish themselves in the territory of Afghanistan.
According to the statement, the countries present at the meeting are committed to continuing to provide medicines, technical assistance and other assistance to the people of Afghanistan in the fight against the coronavirus.
The joint statement noted that the growing trend of narcotics production in Afghanistan over the past 20 years has caused serious harm to the Afghan people and the international community, and emphasizes the need to stop narcotics production in Afghanistan.
The foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries called on the international community to consider adequate, predictable, orderly and sustainable financial support in accordance with its principles of international responsibility and the division of responsibilities for Afghan refugees, including their timely return.
The statement added that the countries present at the meeting stressed the fundamental importance of the implementation of various projects in Afghanistan by neighboring countries for the socio-economic development of the country and called on international organizations and financial institutions to provide the necessary support for their implementation.
At the end of the statement, the participants discussed the continuation of meetings of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries and the holding of the next meeting hosted by Tehran and setting up a mechanism for regular consultations of special envoys on Afghanistan and regular meetings of their representatives in Kabul to coordinate joint efforts they agreed.
