US claim: Russia is buying artillery ammunition from North Korea.
According to the New York Times, American intelligence has assessed that Moscow is buying millions of artillery shells and rockets from North Korea.
After the American claim about the Russian army’s use of Iran-made drones in the Ukraine war, the American newspaper “New York Times” in a report claimed that American intelligence assessed that Moscow is buying millions of cannonballs and rockets from North Korea.
According to Reuters, US officials said they could confirm that the New York Times report was accurate and that Russia is expected to make more purchases of military equipment from North Korea. According to the Reuters report, an American official said about the New York Times report: The Russian Ministry of Defense is buying millions of rockets and artillery shells from North Korea for use in the Ukrainian battlefield.
This anonymous official further claimed: These purchases show that the Russian army is suffering from a severe shortage of supplies in Ukraine, which is partly due to export controls and sanctions. We expect Russia to make more efforts to buy military equipment from North Korea.
The American newspaper, citing US government officials, claimed that these purchases indicate that US-led sanctions have begun to hit and reduce Russia’s ability to continue its invasion of Ukraine.
The recently declassified information did not provide details on what was bought, except that the items included artillery shells and rockets, the newspaper reported on Monday (September 5).
Last month, in an interview with Reuters, an American official claimed that Russia is likely to buy hundreds of Mohajer-6 drones and Shahid series drones from Iran.
According to Reuters, Ukraine has recently carried out counterattacks in several places, including around Kherson, which Russia took control of in the first days of the Ukrainian war. According to this report, in preparation for these attacks, Ukrainian forces have attacked Russian supply areas, including areas where cannons and ammunition are located.
US officials claim that Western sanctions limit Russia’s ability to replace equipment and weapons destroyed in Ukraine.
