Tehran – IRNA – The UN General Assembly will hold the last part of the countries’ speeches on Monday, but it is not yet clear who will be present from Afghanistan.
According to IRNA, announcing the plans of the 76th UN General Assembly and including Afghanistan in the form of the head of state, he asked the question, given the recent developments in Afghanistan and the Taliban’s domination of this country, who in turn is Afghanistan , Will give a speech.
Therefore, in the very first days, we asked Monica Grayley, the spokeswoman for the President of the UN General Assembly, who replied that she had no idea who would speak from Afghanistan at this year’s General Assembly.
But in the days that followed, it was reported that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had received a letter from the interim Taliban government signed by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi.
The letter includes the Taliban’s formal request to attend this year’s UN General Assembly (UNGA) and to inform the international body that Soheil Shahin has named his spokesman in Doha as the new ambassador to the United Nations.
Al Jazeera has reported on the issue, but the Taliban were not the only ones competing to represent Afghanistan at the annual summit.
According to UN spokesman Stephen Dujarric, Guttierez received a letter a few days ago from Ghulam Mohammad Ishaqozi, Afghanistan’s current ambassador to the United Nations.
Mottaki argued in his letter that Ishaqozi was no longer representing Afghanistan because former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had been “ousted” since August 15th.
The question of who is speaking for Afghanistan now lies with the UN General Assembly, which has nine members, including the United States, Russia and China.
The committee has the task of evaluating the claim, making recommendations, and resubmitting it to the General Assembly for consideration, and then accepting or rejecting it.
As an institution, the United Nations does not formally recognize states. Instead, it recognizes the official representatives of its member states.
The committee is not expected to convene before the UN General Assembly, so the Taliban representative is unlikely to speak this year, and while Ishaqozi remains in office, it is unclear whether some countries will speak. Will they oppose this week or not?
