Zionist regime imprisons 17 Palestinian journalists.
A human rights group reported the detention of several Palestinian journalists and media workers by the occupying Zionist regime.
An Arab human rights group announced on Saturday that the Zionist regime had detained 17 Palestinian journalists and media workers.
According to the Turkish daily Yeni فقafak, the Committee to Protect Journalists said in a statement that seven of the detainees had already been convicted, five were in administrative detention and five were awaiting sentencing. The policy of administrative detention allows Israeli regime officials to extend the detention of a prisoner without charge or trial.
The human rights group warned of delays in issuing sentences against prisoners who have been detained without charge for several years, describing the policy as a “clear violation of international law and human rights.”
“The occupying regime has organized state terrorism against the Palestinian media and is trying to silence the Palestinian media in order to weaken the Palestinian people,” the statement said in part.
At least 4,600 Palestinians, including about 500 administrative detainees, are being held in Israeli prisons, according to groups linked to Palestinian prisoners of war.
In another development, the Israeli military acknowledged the imposition of collective sanctions against Palestinians in villages and towns in the West Bank with the aim of improving security conditions for Zionist settlers.
According to the Sama news agency, Zionist militants who are patrolling around the city of Ramallah have admitted that they are closing the entrances to the cities and preventing residents from going to work at the right time. They are also attacking schools to force parents of students to stop their children from scattering stones at Zionist military vehicles as well as settlers’ vehicles.
