We must not act naive, the US has economic benefit in Ukraine war.
Charles Michel, President of the Council of Europe, criticized America’s approach in the Ukraine war and emphasized that Washington always prioritizes its economic interests in the Ukraine war, but European countries suffered more damage and incurred costs from this war than the United States.
The head of the European Council made these statements in an interview with the Italian newspaper “Corriere della Sera”.
Michel said that the security relations between Brussels and Washington have strengthened since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, but we cannot have such an opinion about economic cooperation, because the economic impact and consequences of the war in Ukraine are not the same for America and Europe.
According to Charles Michel, everything is easier for the US in the Ukraine war, because it is an exporter of energy resources and benefits from the increase in oil and gas prices, while the European Union has to pay a heavy price.
He further emphasized: We are facing the danger of economic inflation. European industries have to pay more for energy and face competition from American companies.
The president of the European Council was asked whether he felt “betrayed” by the passage of the Biden administration’s “deflationary law,” which emphasizes massive subsidies and tax cuts for green businesses. After the approval of this law, concerns have increased in European capitals because many European businesses are likely to be encouraged to move to America due to the very sharp drop in energy prices in the United States.
In response to this question, Charles Michel said: I don’t use this word (treason), but I prefer Washington to behave differently. He added: But it is better not to be naive. America, even in the current administration, always prioritizes its economic resources.
Last week, Politico magazine announced in a report that European countries are angry with Washington because of America’s negativism in the war in Ukraine. A senior official of the European Union said in an interview with this publication: America is making the most of this crisis, because they sell more gas to Europe at higher prices, because the American government sells more weapons.
