Washington: If Iran decides, there is a possibility of an agreement.
US officials once again threw the ball to Iran and shrugged off their responsibilities, saying that if Iran made important political decisions, an agreement could be reached.
The current round of Vienna talks on lifting unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran is taking place amid various speculations about the course of the talks by the negotiating parties, most recently a senior US State Department official in a meeting yesterday (Monday). He threw the ball to Iran once again, telling reporters that there was a way to reach an agreement in the Vienna talks, but that Iran had to make “tough and important political decisions now.”
The Oxius website reported that the US State Department official’s remarks were another sign of the Biden administration’s optimism that an agreement would be reached as the Vienna outcome talks move closer to a decision-making point. Last week, Brett McGurk, the White House’s co-ordinator for West Asia, said the United States and Iran were on track to reach a possible agreement.
Speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity, the State Department official said the Vienna talks would enter a “final stage” this week. “We can see.”
Regarding the continuation of the Vienna talks, the senior US State Department official said that the United States could continue the talks for only a few more weeks, otherwise Iran’s nuclear program would be very advanced.
Washington: There is a way to reach an agreement in the Vienna talks, but Iran must make “tough and important political decisions now.”
The remarks came as Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran, made it clear yesterday (Monday) that the Vienna talks had made significant progress.
