US welcomes ceasefire in Yemen
The US President welcomed the announcement of a two-month ceasefire in Yemen.
The White House said US President Joe Biden welcomed the two-month ceasefire in Yemen and called for a ceasefire.
The UN special envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said on Friday evening that the two sides (Sanaa and the resigned government and the aggressor coalition) had agreed to suspend all air, ground and naval operations inside Yemen and overseas operations.
He added that the two sides agreed on the arrival of fuel ships to the ports of Al-Hudaidah and commercial flights to and from Sanaa Airport to specific destinations in the region.
“With the agreement of both parties, it is possible to extend the two-month ceasefire,” Grundberg said.
The UN special envoy called for a ceasefire to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and to end violence.
“The ceasefire includes the cessation of military operations, the opening of Sanaa International Airport for some flights and the opening of the port of Al-Hudaidah,” said Mohammed Abdul Salam, head of the Yemeni National Salvation Government’s negotiating team.
The foreign minister of the resigned Yemeni government had announced hours before the order of the government of Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, the resigned Yemeni president, to take measures to reduce the siege against Yemen.
