US Representative for Afghanistani Women and Girls has been appointed.
Afghan-American diplomat Reina Amiri has been appointed US State Department Special Representative for Afghanistan’s Women and Girls.
The State Department appointed Reina Amiri, an Afghan-American, as US Special Representative for Afghan Women and Girls, and Stephanie Foster, a former US State Department staffer, as Senior Adviser on Resettlement of Afghan Women and Girls.
“We want a peaceful, stable, and secure Afghanistan in which all Afghans live and thrive in the political, economic, and social spheres,” said Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. “Special Representative Reina Amiri will work closely with me to achieve this goal.”
Over the past two decades, Amiri has held various positions in various institutions, including the United Nations.
Reina Amiri has worked for the US Government, the United Nations, and Afghanistan-related think tanks and research centers for the past two decades. He served in the administration of former US President Barack Obama as a senior adviser to the US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Amiri Zamani was a Senior Researcher at the Center for Global Affairs at New York University, leading programs related to the Afghanistan, Regional, and Regional Peace, Security, and Development Examinations.
In addition to serving as a senior adviser to several US think tanks, Amiri was a member of the political team representing the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan at the time of the Bonn Agreement.
Reina Amiri came to the United States with her family as a child and completed her law and diplomacy studies at Taft University in the United States.
