The United States has condemned North Korea’s arms test this morning, the seventh in a month, and called for talks.
The United States has condemned the recent North Korean missile launch and called on Pyongyang to refrain from further “destabilizing measures,” the U.S. military said in a statement.
A State Department spokesman also claimed that “the launch shows the threat posed by North Korea’s illegal ballistic missile and weapons program” and called on Pyongyang to engage in a “stable and substantive” dialogue.
North Korea fired an “unidentified missile” Sunday morning, according to the South Korean military. The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that the missile, believed to be a ballistic missile, was launched from the North Korean province of Jagang on the east coast at about 7:52 a.m. local time.
The South Korean National Security Council (NSC), which held a rare emergency meeting chaired by South Korean President Moon Jae-in, said the test appeared to include a medium-range ballistic missile that North Korea has been carrying out since 2017, according to Reuters has not tested it.
The launch is the latest example of Pyongyang in recent weeks. If approved, it would be North Korea’s seventh missile strike in the new year, with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un promising to boost the military with advanced technology when talks with South Korea and the United States.
