US-British-Australian military cooperation agreement aimed at putting pressure on China.
The leaders of the United States, Britain and Australia signed a new tripartite security and military cooperation agreement in a trilateral videoconference, focusing on developments in the Indo-Pacific region and countering Chinese influence.
The agreement was signed by US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, according to the report.
The new agreement, called AUKUS, will look at how Australia can achieve the best nuclear submarine technology faster and more practical than current conventional submarines over an 18-month period.
“This is a historic statement,” said a senior Biden administration official. This is a new structure for deepening cooperation in the region to develop defense capabilities in the 21st century.
Officials insist that the new agreement is not country-specific and is related to the United States’ commitment to maintaining stability in the region under international law.
Of course, none of the officials of the three countries mentioned China.
