Meanwhile, the Al-Omar oil field topped the list with a daily production of 90,000 barrels of oil, supplying more than 20 percent of Syria’s oil alone. In the following years, the region was first occupied by the opposition and in 2014 by ISIS. There are no official statistics on oil production during the ISIL era; But this oil field was considered the main source of revenue for ISIL.
2. Proximity to the Euphrates oil fields:
A significant portion of Syrian oil is located in the southeastern part of the country, along the Euphrates River, between the city of Deir ez-Zor and the Iraqi border. For a better explanation, it should be said that the length of the Euphrates River in Syria reaches about 500 km; But in its final 150 km (Deir ez-Zor province), there are 10 oil fields named Koniko, Al-Mahash, Al-Tim, Al-Shula, Al-Jafra, Al-Omar, Al-Tanak, Al-Ward, Al-Ahmar and Al-Kashma.
Meanwhile, the Omar oil field is located right in the middle of these oil fields, and as a result, it is the most strategic and optimal point in terms of military and defense facilities.
