United Nations: The world was not quick enough to send aid to Syria.
On Monday local time, the United Nations commission of inquiry added: The Syrian government agreed to provide aid from the border points a full week after the earthquake.
This commission announced that the opponents of the Syrian government prevented aid to the affected communities, while the Tahrir al-Sham editorial board in northwestern Syria prevented aid from Damascus from reaching the people.
Paulo Pineiro, head of the commission, said: “Although many heroic actions have been taken amid the suffering, we have seen a total failure of the government and the international community, including the United Nations, to quickly direct life-saving aid to the Syrians who face the most urgent needs.”
He continued: “Syrians now need a comprehensive ceasefire that is fully respected and civilians, including aid workers, are safe.” Due to the cruelty and cynicism of the parties involved, we are now looking at new attacks even in the areas that have been devastated by the earthquake, and this is unacceptable.
As a result of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in the morning of Monday (17th of February) in northwestern Syria, in addition to causing great damage in five provinces of northwestern Syria, many people have also been killed.
The earthquake in Aleppo completely destroyed 54 buildings and killed 500 people and injured a large number of citizens, 750 of whom were hospitalized.
So far, a number of different countries have sent their aid to Syria with more than 200 planes.
