Uncertainty of Afghanistan’s official representation in international institutions.
Tehran – News Agency – The International Criminal Court (ICC) has asked the United Nations to nominate an official representative of Afghanistan. International Criminal Court judges have said they will not be able to decide whether to resume war crimes investigations in Afghanistan until the official representation of Afghanistan is determined.
The International Criminal Court (ICC), which has suspended its investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity in Afghanistan, has called on the United Nations to appoint an official representative.
The court said in a statement that it would not be possible to resume investigations into war crimes and crimes against humanity in Afghanistan until the official representation of Afghanistan in international institutions is determined.
About two months after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, and despite the group’s talks with some countries, no country has yet recognized the Taliban interim government.
The judges of the International Criminal Court have asked Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General and the governing body of the Court, to determine which group governs Afghanistan in terms of international law.
The request comes as a prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC) called for a resumption of investigations into the situation in Afghanistan on 27 September.
