UN warning: Sudan is on the brink of internal bankruptcy.
According to Reuters, the United Nations says Sudan is approaching the “point of internal bankruptcy” as continued fighting threatens to drive 800,000 people out.
The unrest in Sudan has seen aid workers killed, hospitals bombed and humanitarian facilities looted, and foreign aid groups have been forced to suspend most of their activities.
In this regard, the United Nations has warned that Sudan is approaching the point of internal bankruptcy, as armed conflicts and explosions continue in Khartoum, and potentially 800,000 people may be forced to flee the country.
The continuation of the conflict in Sudan is in a situation where the two sides had agreed on a ceasefire.
“Stephen Dujarric”, the spokesman of Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, also said about the situation in Sudan: “The scale and speed of what is happening in Sudan is unprecedented. “We are deeply concerned about its immediate and long-term impact on all the people of Sudan and the region.”
Also on Monday, Martin Griffiths, the UN’s top humanitarian official, went to the region to help provide aid to the millions of people whose lives have been destroyed overnight in Sudan. “The human condition is reaching the point of bankruptcy,” Dujarric said.
More than 500 people have been killed and about 4,600 injured since the fighting broke out on April 15 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Chaos and bloodshed have also caused the mass migration of tens of thousands of Sudanese to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Chad.
Millions of those who have not fled are also sheltering in their homes, requiring immediate humanitarian assistance.
