UN: There is no sign of the end of the Russia-Ukraine war.
The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs has warned that there are no signs of an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, and instead the conflict has escalated.
UN Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo said on Friday that the grain transfer agreement reached between Russia and Ukraine will help alleviate the global food crisis.
In the continuation of his speech, he asked Russia and Ukraine to cooperate so that this agreement is implemented successfully.
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs added: “There has been no sign of an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, and instead the conflict has escalated.”
DiCarlo said: “With the end of the summer season, we need to prepare a plan to deal with the new consequences that the war in Ukraine will create in the winter season.”
He asked all parties involved in the war in Ukraine to adhere to international agreements to protect civilians.
The UN Secretary General’s political deputy added: “The lack of any clear horizon for political efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis worries us.”
At the same time as Russian forces advance in special military operations in Donbas towards Kherson region, the authorities of Kiev announce the collapse of the second largest power plant in Ukraine.
Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak said early Thursday that the Russians had taken control of the coal-fired Vohlhirsk thermal facility in Donetsk, the country’s second-largest power plant.
According to the Reuters news agency, Podoliak also explained that Russia is deploying large-scale ground forces towards Kherson, Melitopol and Zaporozhye.
