UN: Abu Aqla killed in Israeli shooting.
The United Nations has said it has collected information indicating that a deadly shooting at a Palestinian journalist in Al-Jazeera was carried out by Israeli forces.
The United Nations said Friday (June 24th) that it had collected information indicating that the May 11 shooting that killed a Palestinian journalist for Al-Jazeera was carried out by Israeli forces.
“All the information we have gathered is consistent with the finding that the shootings that killed Abu Aqla and wounded his colleague Ali Samoudi,” Ravina Shamdasani, a spokeswoman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, told reporters in Geneva, according to AFP. It was by the Israeli security forces and not the blind shooting of armed Palestinians.
Shirin Abu Aqla, a veteran journalist for the Western Al Jazeera network, was martyred last month while covering the Israeli army’s attacks in the city of Jenin. “Palestinians have said from day one that they know the bullet was fired by Israeli troops,” said Neda Ibrahim, an Al Jazeera correspondent in Ramallah. The eyewitness accounts and videos we have seen of Palestinians present there show that there were no Palestinian fighters around. “The Palestinians now want justice and accountability.”
In the latest request for an investigation into the Zionist regime’s crimes, 24 members of the US Senate have asked US President Joe Biden to involve Washington directly in the investigation into the assassination of Al Jazeera journalist Shirin Abu Aqla in occupied Palestine.
Following the crimes of the interim Zionist regime in the assassination of Shirin Abu Aqla, the demands of the United States to reconsider its unconditional support for the Zionist regime and to condition its annual aid to this regime have intensified.
The US State Department called the incident “worrying” after the interim Zionist regime’s attack on Abu Aqla’s funeral and called for an investigation into the journalist’s death. When questioned by reporters about the murder, Joe Biden said at the time, instead of condemning the crime, that he was not aware of the details and that an investigation was needed.
