Ukraine claims: 50 Russian soldiers killed and 7 planes destroyed.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said in a statement that 50 Russian soldiers had been killed and seven its planes destroyed in clashes between the country’s military and Russia.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry claimed on Thursday evening (February 24th) that 50 Russian soldiers had been killed and seven warplanes had been shot down.
“Fifty Russian occupiers were killed, seven Russian planes were shot down and four tanks were destroyed,” the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said in a statement issued an hour earlier.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has also claimed that its military has shot down two Russian helicopters over the city of Gostomel, near the Ukrainian capital Kiev.
In addition, the Ukrainian embassy in Ankara claims that Ukraine has managed to capture two Russian soldiers. Pictures of these soldiers with their weapons were published in cyberspace.
Russia ordered a military strike on Ukraine on Thursday morning (February 24th). This development came days after Moscow formally recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics in eastern Ukraine. Russia says Ukraine has not fulfilled its obligations under the Minsk agreements reached in 2014 and 2015 to resolve the dispute between separatists and Kiev.
Hours after the Russian invasion, Ukraine announced that it had cut off all diplomatic ties with the country. Vladimir Putin says Russia’s military operation is aimed at demilitarizing Ukraine and “de-Naziizing” it.
In several speeches, Putin criticized Western countries for ignoring Russia’s security concerns and sending advanced weapons to Ukraine. The Russian president has claimed that his country’s military action in Ukraine is necessary to prevent further bloodshed in the future.
Western countries have condemned Russia’s actions against Ukraine and imposed sanctions on Moscow. Britain has placed eight individuals and 11 entities, including six Russian banks, on the sanctions list. London has also said that a large number of members of the Russian Duma will be targeted.
