UAE: We have taken steps to reduce tensions with Iran.
A senior UAE official has claimed that Abu Dhabi has taken steps to reduce tensions with Iran.
Anwar Gargash, speaking at the Abu Dhabi Strategic Summit, claimed that the UAE’s actions were aimed at building trust and avoiding conflict with Iran.
“We continue to have serious concerns about Iran’s involvement in Iraq, Syria and Yemen, and we have taken steps to defuse tensions,” Anwar Gargash said. “We have no interest in the conflict because the region will pay the price in the coming decades.”
Gargash has intervened in Iran while interfering in the affairs of other countries, while the UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, has led a coalition to attack Yemen. In addition, documents have been released supporting the UAE and Saudi Arabia supporting terrorist groups opposed to the Syrian government.
In addition, the UAE has been the target of sharp criticism from human rights activists for several years for imprisoning hundreds of human rights activists who want to carry out political reforms in the country to ensure democratic elections.
“We can build trust with each other and move towards a more stable situation,” Anwar Gargash added. “It would be better for Iran to cooperate with its neighbors.”
Anwar Gargash added: “Conflict is not a constructive path, but instead, diplomacy and interaction are the best step forward. “We are working hard to build bridges with all countries, even those with which we disagree.”
“The preference for diplomacy and engagement over confrontation is also evident in the Ibrahim Accords and our subsequent engagements with Israel,” he said.
The UAE is one of the Gulf states that in recent months has called for Arab countries to participate in Iran’s talks with the P4 + 1 group on lifting illegal sanctions.
