Lebanese Council of Ministers meeting, UAE also joined the Saudi anti-Lebanese campaign.
Lebanese officials, chaired by Michel Aoun, will meet tomorrow to discuss Saudi Arabia’s decision to ban the import of Lebanese vegetables and fruits.
According to Al-Ahd News Agency, Lebanese President Michel Aoun called for a meeting at the Ba’athist Palace (Presidential Palace) to discuss developments resulting from Saudi Arabia’s decision to ban the import of Lebanese agricultural products to the country.
The meeting will be held tomorrow, Monday, in the presence of Hassan Diab, Prime Minister of the Government of the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Economy.
In addition, officials from customs and security services and a number of shareholders in the agricultural sector, including farmers and exporters, will attend the meeting.
On Friday, Saudi Arabia announced that it had banned the import of fruits and vegetables from Lebanon to the country. The Saudi decision was taken under the pretext of increasing drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement supporting the Saudi decision to ban the import of agricultural products from Lebanon.
The statement said that the UAE supports Saudi Arabia’s decision to take precautionary measures and to protect society from drugs and the decision taken in this context.
Bahrain has previously expressed support for the Saudi decision.
However, some of the sources from Lebanon, emphasized that there is no credible evidence the source of the drugs discovered in Saudi Arabia was from Lebanon, attributed the Saudi move to a political program, while Lebanon is recovering from a deep financial crisis. The history suffers and the ban on the import of Lebanese agricultural products to Saudi Arabia will be a great loss for the Lebanese.
