Türkiye is ready to mediate between Russia and Ukraine.
According to Sputnik, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, at the end of his participation in the NATO meeting in Lithuania, emphasized that Turkey is ready to mediate between Russia and Ukraine if requested by this country.
He added: “If we are asked to play the role of a mediator, we will gladly do so.”
Regarding the grain agreement, Erdogan also emphasized that Ukraine supports the extension of this agreement and that Turkey is trying to find a way of working by considering Russia’s proposals in this regard.
Recently, “Viktor Bondarov”, a representative of the Russian Federation Council (Senate of this country), who is also the head of the defense and security committee of this institution, said: Turkey’s recent statements and actions show that this country is moving towards a group. It slips away from countries that Moscow considers unfriendly.
Bondarov also stated that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is giving in to the pressure of the West and added: “Definitely, national security and national interests come first.” But even under serious pressure from the West, one must maintain one’s dignity, as Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán has shown time and time again.
Erdoğan recently said in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Ankara that Ukraine “deserves” to join NATO. The next day, Zelensky announced that he had brought five leaders of the Azov Regiment, which Moscow considers a terrorist organization, back to Ukraine.
These people were arrested last year by Russia in the city of Mariupol, Donbass, and were handed over to Turkey in the exchange of prisoners with Ukraine, which was mediated by Ankara, and the five senior commanders of this group were supposed to be kept in Turkish territory until the end of the conflicts in Ukraine.
