Turki al-Faisal: Saudi Arabia must have a nuclear bomb.
Following the revelation last year by news sources about Riyadh’s covert efforts to prepare the yellow cake, the former head of the Saudi intelligence service said that Riyadh should do whatever it takes to defend itself against Iran.
Turki al-Faisal, the former head of Saudi Arabia’s intelligence agency and former ambassador to the United States, made remarks Thursday evening about Riyadh’s efforts to obtain a nuclear bomb.
“I have said publicly before that we must do whatever is necessary, including developing a bomb,” he said in an interview with the US-based Amos Anbousi network, claiming that Iran was seeking a nuclear bomb. “The nucleus to defend ourselves against the possibility of a nuclear Iran.”
However, the former Saudi official added: “I am not working in the government to say what the government will do about this case; “But this is my personal opinion.”
The former Saudi official’s remarks come as the Saudi government announced in November 2017 that it had plans to build two large reactors, with Russia, China, the United States, France and South Korea sending their plans to Riyadh.
Earlier, it was also reported that China and South Korea were building several small reactors in Saudi Arabia.
Last year, the Wall Street Journal quoted a Western official as saying that the yellow cake was located in the remote Al-Ala area in northwestern Saudi Arabia.
