Apparently, the policy center in Ankara does not have the necessary stability; Sometimes it seeks to reduce problems to zero and open new pages of relations with countries in the region, namely Syria, Iraq, Egypt, and other countries, and sometimes it seeks to stir up existing differences and conflicts; The recent remarks of Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu are proof of this claim.
According to Turkish media, Sevilo told the Central Committee and the Executive Council of the ruling party about the Turkish military operation in northern Iraq that Ankara intends to establish a new base in northern Iraq – similar to the one in northern Syria.
Referring to the strategic importance of the Matina area in northern Iraq – where the Turkish military has recently conducted military operations – he said the area is located near the Qandil Heights in northern Iraq and is one of the most important bases of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party. Is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey.
“Our operations in northern Iraq will continue, and the Matina region is an important region,” he said.
He added that in this region, like what we did in Syria, we will establish a base here and take control of the whole region. The Turkish Ministry of Defense has also issued a statement announcing that operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in northern Iraq will continue unabated.
Despite protests by Iraqi officials and the repeated summoning of the Turkish ambassador to Baghdad, Ankara continues to insist on its intention to establish an airbase near its southern border.
The Turkish Interior Ministry said in a statement that the base would be established in an area of strategic importance to Ankara. He clarified that this area is a bridge crossing to Qandil heights, one of the most important bases of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party. He also stressed that the operation in northern Iraq continues.
