The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported on the events in Jordan last night, blaming the Saudi government and an Arab Gulf state for the coup.
According to Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, the newspaper wrote that, according to high-ranking Jordanian sources, the Saudi government and the Persian Gulf Arab country [the name of the country is not mentioned in the report] coordinated with each other to carry out the coup in Jordan and were aware of what was happening. Yedioth Ahranoth predicted that the other Arab country would be the United Arab Emirates.
According to the newspaper, King Abdullah II of Jordan was aware of the coup plot and arrived in Saudi Arabia last month on an unexpected trip to meet with Mohammed bin Salman. The description of this trip and the words exchanged were never published in the media. The King of Jordan then told everyone, including Israel and Mossad, that he did not trust anyone and would work to stabilize his power in Jordan.
“It is clear today that Benjamin Netanyahu was undoubtedly aware of what has been on the mind of the Jordanian king in recent weeks,” Ahranut added. “One of the reasons why the Jordanian king prevented Netanyahu’s plane from flying over the country and flying to the United Arab Emirates was revenge on Abu Dhabi for collaborating with the coup plotters in Jordan.”
At the same time, news sources during the Jordanian coup mentioned the names of two people named “Al-Sharif Hassan bin Zayd” and “Bassem Awadullah” who were directly related to Saudi Arabia. (More details)
News sources on Saturday evening reported a wave of arrests between senior Jordanian officials and the royal family, including the king’s brother, on charges of the coup.
The Washington Post also wrote that the move followed the discovery of what palace officials described as a complex and widespread conspiracy. A Jordanian official confirmed the arrests, saying the arrests were linked to a “threat to the country’s stability”.
