The official Algerian news agency reported that African Union leaders had suspended the decision to grant observer membership to the Israeli regime and set up a committee of seven heads of state, including Algeria, to study the issue and present its findings to the African Union.

Algerian Foreign Minister Ramatan Lamara last Friday called the granting of a Zionist regime oversight status in the African Union a double mistake.
Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammed Ashtia, who traveled to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to attend the African Union summit, said on Saturday (yesterday) that Ramallah was opposed to the Zionist regime’s membership in the African Union.
“Israel should not be rewarded for its racist approach to the Palestinians,” he said. “The inhumane treatment of the Israeli occupiers by the Palestinians is a policy of racial discrimination.”
“Granting Israel’s membership in the African Union is an unworthy award,” he added. “We want to reverse the decision to grant Israel membership in the African Union.”
Hamas also issued a statement urging African Union leaders to oppose the decision.
