The Zionist minister warms the furnace of the Western Sahara conflict in the West.
During a visit to Morocco, the Israeli interior minister said that the regime supported Rabat’s rule in the Western Sahara.
Israeli Interior Minister Ail Shaked, who is visiting Morocco, met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Burita.
According to Al-Quds Al-Arabi, he said after the meeting that the Zionist regime supports Rabat’s rule in the Western Sahara.
Shaked added that he met with Burita to discuss bilateral relations as well as joint projects.
He had previously met with Moroccan Interior Minister Abdul Wafi Leftit to discuss the development of special consultative mechanisms on important issues between the two sides.
On December 10, 2020, Morocco and the Zionist regime announced the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two sides after its cessation in 2000.
Morocco wants a self-governing government in the Western Sahara and the existence of a local government and parliament under its rule in the region, and says if a referendum is to be held, it must be about the region’s autonomy, not secession. But the Polisario Front opposes the plan and calls for a referendum on the fate of the Western Sahara.
The Polisario Front is a politico-military organization in the Western Sahara. The group was formed in 1973 as a resistance group against Spanish colonial rule in the Western Sahara with the aim of gaining independence. After Spain’s withdrawal in 1976, the Polisario established the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in the former Spanish colony, opposing Spain’s move to divide the Western Sahara between Morocco and Mauritania.
Mauritania and Polisario made peace in 1979, returning the southern part of the Sahara Republic (known as Wadi al-Dhahab), but Morocco kingdom occupied the entire northern part of the Western Sahara, known as Al-Saqiyah al-Hamra. He annexed his soil. Since then, the Polisario Front has focused on resistance against Morocco.
