The US base in northern Iraq was targeted.
Iraqi sources say the US base in northern Iraq has been targeted by several drones.
Iraqi media reported this morning (Saturday) that a US military base at Balad Air Base (Salah al-Din Province, northern Iraq) had been targeted.
The Saber News Telegram Channel reported that sirens had been sounded at the US base, and that the base had been attacked by several UAVs.
Saberin News reported moments later that after the attack on the US military base, a fire broke out at the base and smoke rose into the sky.
The news site added that the American part of the base was closed and the forces were on standby.
Saberin News added that after the attack, the forces stationed at the base were warned through loudspeakers in English, while it was previously claimed that no foreign or American forces were stationed at the base.
Confirming the report, Shafaq News quoted a security source as saying that Balad Air Base was attacked by several UAVs at 6:10 local time.
The source added that fire was seen in the base of Balad following the attack, but the extent of the damage is still unknown.
The US coalition has not yet issued a statement on the attack.
Hours later, the Iraqi Security Information Center confirmed the attack in a statement, saying three drones had approached Balad Air Base.
Despite reports from Shafaq News about a fire at Balad base after the attack, the Iraqi Security Information Center said the drones had left after the drones approached the base and fired at them.
The attack comes as rocket and drone strikes against US forces have intensified in various parts of Iraq and Syria since the beginning of this year.
In the past two weeks, the media has reported more than a dozen attacks on US bases and logistics convoys in various parts of Iraq and eastern and northeastern Syria.
