The United States has banned new investments in Russia.
Western sources claim that the United States will announce new sanctions against Russia on Wednesday, including a ban on new investments in that country.
Western media have quoted informed sources as saying that the administration of US President Joe Biden intends to increase pressure on Russia under the pretext of invading Ukraine by imposing new sanctions.
The British newspaper The Financial Times reported, citing informed sources, that the ban on new investments in Russia and the increase in sanctions on its financial institutions are among the new sanctions measures that the Biden government intends to introduce soon.
“The new measures will weaken key parts of Russia’s national power, deal a severe and immediate economic blow to the Russian economy, and hold Russian thieves responsible for financing Russia’s war,” an informed source said.
A source quoted by the Financial Times as claiming new sanctions will be unveiled on Wednesday. These sanctions have been prepared in coordination with the G7 countries and the European Union.
“These measures will be taken in coordination with our allies and partners, and reflect our determination and unity to impose unprecedented costs on Russia for its war in Ukraine,” the source said.
Russia has ordered a military strike on Ukraine since March. This development came days after Moscow formally recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics in eastern Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said his country’s military operation is aimed at “demilitarizing Ukraine” and “de-Naziizing” the country.
