Obaidullah Nizamani, the chargé d’affaires of the Pakistani embassy in Afghanistan, survived on Friday after being shot by unknown assailants in the city of Kabul, and his bodyguard was seriously injured in this incident.
United Nations spokesman Stephen Dujarric told reporters on Friday local time: We are happy that the consul general of Pakistan in Afghanistan was not injured in the assassination attempt and we hope that the security forces will recover as soon as possible.
The UN spokesperson emphasized: The UN strongly condemns such attacks and we have witnessed several attacks and security challenges in Afghanistan.
Dujarric stated: We want to improve the situation in this country and we will continue our efforts in this direction.
According to a news report on Friday from Pakistani news sources, the shooting incident at the Pakistani embassy in Kabul occurred when the Pakistani ambassador was walking and his bodyguards were also present by his side.
The Pakistani officer survived the attack, but his bodyguard, who is a member of the Special Forces of the Pakistan Army (SSG), was seriously injured after being hit by three bullets.
So far, no person or group has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Pakistani embassy and the attempt on the life of the country’s official.
Diplomatic sources of Pakistan announced that the country’s charge d’affaires has been called to Islamabad immediately and the government of Pakistan is going to convey its strong protest to the leaders of the Taliban government.
Moments ago, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attempt to assassinate the Pakistani ambassador in Kabul and demanded a clear investigation from the Taliban government to identify and arrest the attackers.
