Soldiers in the Swiss military have been banned from using WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal messaging apps while on duty.
According to AFP, army commanders and chiefs of staff instructed all troops via email in December to use the Swiss messenger “Threema”.
Switzerland’s Army spokesman Daniel Rist confirmed that the recommendation had been sent to all of the country’s military, including conscripts and returnees.
The Swiss military plans to cover the cost of downloading and installing Threema software, which costs 4 Swiss francs ($ 4.35).
