The Sudanese army suspended its participation in the ceasefire talks.
Sudan’s military announced that it was suspending its participation in the ceasefire talks following repeated failures by the Rapid Support Forces.
“Nabil Abdullah”, the spokesman of the Sudanese army, announced this evening (Wednesday) the suspension of the army’s participation in the ceasefire negotiations in the Saudi city of Jeddah.
The spokesman of the Sudanese army announced that this step was taken in protest against the disruptions of the “rapid support” forces and their repeated violations of the ceasefire.
Nabil Abdullah added that the Sudanese army wants to ensure the full implementation of the terms of the ceasefire before continuing the negotiations.
The conflict between the forces of the Sudanese army under the command of “Abd al-Fattah al-Barhan” and the rapid support forces under the command of “Mohammed Hamdan Abdullah” began on April 15th and continues. The civil war in Sudan has so far resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries.
The two sides have so far reached seven ceasefire agreements, but all of these agreements were fragile and were violated after a few days.
In response to the statement of the Sudanese army, the Rapid Support Forces announced that they “unconditionally support the initiative of Saudi Arabia and the United States.”
Following the suspension of the participation of the Sudanese army in the ceasefire talks, the White House expressed its regret for the withdrawal of the representative of the Sudanese army from the negotiations.
This action of the Sudanese army took place only two days after the agreement on the extension of the ceasefire, which was extended for five days.
