While the number of Muslims in many European countries has been increasing, Islamophobia has also intensified in these countries in recent years.
Earlier, a human rights group announced that more than 800 mosques in Germany have been threatened and attacked since 2014, and unfortunately, the country’s authorities have not paid much attention to this issue.
The Brandligh Human Rights Center has stated in this report that between 2014 and 2022, there have been nearly 840 attacks, vandalism and threats against mosques.
A detailed analysis of crimes in 2018 showed that the perpetrators of these crimes in most cases remained anonymous, fueling more attacks against Muslim religious sites by neo-Nazis or left-wing extremists, the report said.
The group pointed out in its recent report that among the 120 recorded attacks against mosques in 2018, the perpetrators were identified in only 9 cases. Despite the fact that police officers generally arrived very quickly and immediately started investigations, almost none of the incidents have been solved to this day.
Germany, a country with more than 83 million people, has the second largest Muslim population in Western Europe after France.
The Minister of the Interior of France also recently announced that 21 mosques have been closed in this country in the recent period. He claimed that during the recent inspection of 99 mosques, there were signs of extremism inside 21 mosques. The French official said that in the coming days, 6 more mosques will be closed and this action will be done based on the law against extremism.
