The latest development in the exchange of Yemeni prisoners.
According to al-Masirah, Ansarullah of Yemen announced an agreement with the Saudi-affiliated Yemeni government to set May 20 as the date for mutual visits to the prisons of both parties, before the start of new negotiations for the exchange of prisoners.
Abdul Qadir al-Mortaza, the head of Yemen’s Ansarullah Prisoners’ Committee, announced: This visit was supposed to be on the 15th of May, i.e. today.
He attributed the delay in its implementation to some logistical measures of the United Nations and noted that this agreement is still in place.
Abdul Qadir al-Mortaza emphasized: We agreed with the United Nations that May 20 will be the starting date for visiting the prisons in Sana’a and Marib.
He continued: After the visit to the prisons, negotiations will be held and there are no obstacles from the parties. We hope that this visit will be done as soon as possible so that the new round of negotiations can begin.
This is despite the fact that a Yemeni source affiliated with Saudi Arabia had announced the postponement of the second round of the prisoner exchange operation with Ansarullah.
So far, there has been no reaction from the Saudi-affiliated Yemeni government regarding the statements of the head of the Ansarullah Prisoners Committee in this regard.
Last April 16, the International Committee of the Red Cross announced the release of about 900 prisoners in Yemen during the Yemeni-Yemeni prisoner exchange agreement following consultations between the parties in Switzerland.
