“The international community has no real will to resolve this crisis,” said the Iranian ambassador in Brussels, noting that some countries should not seek political concessions by abusing the issue of Syria’s reconstruction and the return of refugees.
“The international community has no serious will to resolve the Syrian crisis, especially with respect to the Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Dehqani said during the fifth Brussels Conference on “Supporting the future of Syria and the region” which was held virtually on 29 and 30 March 2021.
The diplomat added that Iran has always supported political solutions, adding that in cooperation with Russia and Turkey, Iran has been the creator of the Astana Process with the aim of finding a political solution to the crisis.
He went on to say that the international community has a responsibility to facilitate the process.
Dehqani also blasted the imposition of illegal sanctions on Syria, saying that these sanctions violate international law and only exacerbate the suffering of the war-torn Syrian people.
In relevant remarks on Monday, Iran’s Envoy and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi said, “While ten years of conflict has negatively impacted Syria’s economic condition, the destructive effects of unilateral sanctions in further worsening the economic situation of the country are self-explanatory.”
