The Hague Court’s emphasis on starting the investigation of war crimes in Afghanistan.
The International Criminal Court in The Hague, the Netherlands, has called for the continuation of investigations related to war crimes in Afghanistan.
Prosecutors of the International Criminal Court in The Hague have demanded the resumption of investigations into war crimes in Afghanistan and have asked the judges of this court to make a decision in this regard as soon as possible.
According to Reuters news agency, the prosecutors of the Hague court have warned that war crimes continue in Afghanistan.
The investigation of the International Criminal Court in Afghanistan has been stopped for more than two years. This investigation was stopped in March 2020, at the request of the previous government, and at that time, Ashraf Ghani’s government said that this government itself was investigating suspected crimes.
In documents published this week on the International Criminal Court website, Prosecutor Karim Khan argued that Afghanistan’s request to suspend the investigation should be rejected; Because according to him, the current rulers of this country are not trying to pursue justice in domestic courts.
He said that the Taliban has no intention of conducting an investigation in this field.
According to this prosecutor, not only did the Taliban not investigate, but the available information indicates that serious crimes are committed during the rule of this group.
He asked the judges to allow the investigation “to resume quickly”.
In September last year, Khan announced that he had asked the judges of the Hague Tribunal to reopen the investigation into the crimes of the Taliban and ISIS.
He added that the prosecutors prioritize the investigation of war crimes committed by US forces and Afghan government forces.
Previously, the Trump administration had prevented the investigation of war crimes committed by American soldiers during the 20-year war in Afghanistan with pressure and threats of sanctions.
