The first plane carrying prisoners from Saudi Arabia to Yemen.
The Saudi coalition announced that the first plane carrying prisoners had flown from Saudi Arabia to Yemen.
Today (Friday), the spokesman of the Saudi coalition, Turki Al-Maliki, announced the flight of the first plane carrying prisoners to Yemen.
A spokesman for the Saudi coalition said without elaborating that the process of air transfer of prisoners to Sanaa and Aden would take place today in three stages.
The Saudi newspaper “Okaz” reported moments later that the first plane was carrying 40 prisoners and had arrived in Yemen. Al-Hadath reporter also reported that the prisoners were transferred to Aden by Red Cross plane and the total number of released prisoners is 108 who will enter Aden airport in order.
Meanwhile, the Saudi coalition announced on the eighth of this month that it had released 163 Yemeni prisoners and that they would be transferred to Sanaa in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The coalition has previously claimed that the move was in line with efforts to close the prisoner exchange case without regard to political issues, as well as efforts to end the Yemeni crisis.
However, the head of the Captive Affairs Committee in the National Salvation Government recently said that although Sanaa has taken many steps to resolve the humanitarian issue of the prisoner exchange, negotiations with the United Nations on the exchange of prisoners are progressing very slowly.
The transfer comes after Hans Grundberg, the UN special envoy for Yemen, announced on April 4 that a two-month ceasefire had been reached between the two sides in Yemen and called for an end to all military operations.
According to the terms of the agreement, 18 fuel-carrying ships must enter the Yemeni port of Al-Hudaidah, and on the other hand, two flights must be allowed to use Sanaa Airport every week. Other clauses in the agreement include a meeting between the parties to agree on opening crossings in Taiz and other provinces to improve traffic within Yemen.
