Al-Mayadeen correspondent in Yemen reported on Saturday that the first plane carrying Yemeni pilgrims with 275 passengers flew from Sana’a Airport to Saudi Arabia for the first time since the beginning of the war in Yemen.
An informed source at Sana’a International Airport said: The first plane of Yemeni pilgrims to Jeddah took off from Sana’a Airport with 275 pilgrims for the first time since 2016.
Abdul Wahab al-Dara, Minister of Transportation of the Sana’a Government, said that the launch of Hajj flights from Sana’a International Airport was done with the constant follow-up of Mehdi Al-Mashat, the head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council.
He added: 4 flights from Sana’a airport to Jeddah airport and 15 other flights are planned for pilgrims to return to Sana’a international airport.
Al-Dara pointed out that the names of pilgrims to Baitullah Al-Haram are to be determined through Sana’a airport. He pointed out: Pilgrims and Umrah pilgrims were supposed to return through Sana’a airport after performing Hajj rituals.
This Yemeni official also demanded the full reopening of Sana’a International Airport as it was before the war.
Najib Al-Aji, the Minister of Guidance and Hajj and Umrah Affairs in the Sana’a government, also pointed out the dangers that pilgrims faced in the past years due to bumpy and unsafe roads and said that the reopening of Sana’a International Airport is a good sign for pilgrims. for the opening of all airports in Yemen and expressed hope that this airport will be fully opened for all travelers, pilgrims, patients, and others. This Yemeni official also emphasized that the reopening of Yemeni airports has completely humanitarian aspects. He emphasized the interest of the leadership and the Supreme Political Council of Yemen in reducing the pain and suffering of pilgrims and ensuring their lives safety during air travel.
Ghalib Motlaq, the Minister of Public Works in the Sana’a government, also explained that 200 flights are scheduled to be made because the number of Yemeni pilgrims is 24,000.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia announced that Riyadh has decided to facilitate Hajj and Umrah from Sana’a Airport to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah like other land and airports in Yemen.
Last year, weekly flights from Sana’a Airport, under the control of Yemen’s Ansarullah Forces, to Queen Alia Airport in Oman, resumed after a seven-year suspension due to the siege of Sana’a by the aggressor Saudi coalition.
Last Thursday, the number of weekly flights from this airport to Oman increased from three flights to six flights.
This is while Yemen’s Ansarullah forces have repeatedly criticized the aggressor Saudi coalition because of the blockade of Yemen. The National Salvation Government of Yemen has often announced that Saudi Arabia must take practical measures to end the blockade of this country in order to show its goodwill to resolve the Yemeni case.
