The end of the Islamists in power; “Aziz Akhannoush” became the Prime Minister of Morocco.
The Morocco’si King last night appointed Aziz Akhannoush the leader of the winning party, as the country’s prime minister.
Aziz Akhannoush, the leader of the Liberal Party “Al-Tajma ‘Al-Watani Al-Ahrar”, attended the Royal Palace last night (Friday) and received the Prime Minister’s decree from “Mohammad VI”, according to the International Group of Sach News Agency.
According to the Sahra Media website, the party won 102 of the 395 seats in the recent parliamentary elections on September 8, in which the main rival of the Patriotic Union Party, the Islamist Justice and Development Party, won only 13 seats.
So the AKP, which has been in power in the Morocco since 2011, will hand over power to a secular party after two terms. In 2011, during the Arab Spring protests and the Shah’s order to amend the constitution, the party was able to seize the opportunity and come to power.
Akhannoush is also a prominent figure in Moroccan politics, and has been running for office since taking office in 2007. In addition to politics, he also trades and is one of the richest politicians in Morocco. According to the media, “Aziz Akhannoush” is one of the people very close to “Mohammad VI”, the king of this country.
The new Prime Minister of Morocco has also repeatedly expressed his favorable opinion on the issue of normalization of relations with the Zionist regime. While the AKP did not have a unified view on the issue, many party officials opposed the compromise. Aziz Akhnoush also has extensive ties with Morocco’s European partners and was instrumental in the return of Western ships to the Maghreb coast in 2014.
