The BBC article about the Queen of England’s relationship with Africa caused controversy.
The BBC video about the Queen of England’s relationship with Africa caused the anger of the users, and this media was forced to block the audience’s comments.
The British state media, the BBC, had to block the audience’s comments after publishing an article about the Queen’s relationship with Africa on Twitter.
In a video published by the Twitter account of the BBC Africa department, “Queen Elizabeth II’s long-standing relationship with Africa” was discussed, but the publication of this article brought the anger of users and many described it as “renaming colonialism”.
The BBC published this four and a half minute clip on the occasion of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the King of England at the age of 96, and tried to portray her as someone interested in Africa and the leaders of this continent.
According to what Rashatudi reported, this video brought criticism from a number of users who stated that the BBC is trying to change the concept of colonialism by highlighting the British rule over Africa that lasted until the end of the 20th century.
Zimbabwe was the last African country to gain independence from Britain in 1980.
Many users recalled examples of British oppression of African freedom fighters. Some users, for example, pointed to the anti-colonial Mau Mau uprising in Kenya, which led to the imprisonment of 1.5 million Kenyans in forced labor camps and the torture of Kenyans by the British.
One user wrote: “She became queen when she was on a trip to Kenya. At the same time, Africans were segregated, enslaved and tortured to death in their own land. It’s what the BBC calls an enduring relationship.”
Another user wrote: “We never had a relationship with the queen, it was called imperialism and colonialism, that is, these were imposed on us. “There was a colonial relationship at work.”
The BBC’s account posted another post after the post, saying: “While we encourage everyone to have a strong conversation on our page, we would like to ask everyone to behave respectfully and follow our general guidelines. Any post that does not meet this criteria will be removed.
