The three-day summit of the seven industrial powers of the world ended yesterday (Sunday) when neither a useful solution was offered by the members in the face of immediate international crises, nor did it reduce Britain’s voluntary isolation after the election to host a pivotal role in taking over the international arena.
The forty-seventh G7 summit in the Carbis Bay area of Cornwall, England, ended today, June 13, 1400, after three days of talks. In addition to the seven countries, the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Canada, Italy, and Japan; Four other guests, including the European Union, India, Australia, and South Korea, also attended.
This was the first face-to-face summit after the Corona crisis. Boris Johnson was hosting the meeting with his new wife, who was under internal pressure to announce the end of quarantine. Boris Johnson is set to announce June 21 as the end of quarantine and return to normal life, but given the exponential growth of coronavirus delta mutation samples first identified in India, the country is likely to open. Do not fulfill the desired date. Johnson declined to comment definitively in all interviews, but the country is expected to face at least a four-week delay.
The summit, on the other hand, was the first appearance of the new US president Joe Biden in the Seventh Summit and the first summit after the complete and official withdrawal of Britain from the European Union. The British government has always emphasized “special relations” with the United States, and in doing so sought to gain credibility from Biden’s presence at the Seventh Summit as his first foreign destination. It is unclear, however, whether Biden would have met Britain again if he had hosted another country instead of Britain.
Former Prime Minister Theresa May rushed to Washington to be the first foreign leader to meet with Trump; her excesses and haste in proving “special relations” were ridiculed at the time and continue to embarrass the British government. Now the Biden administration, in stark contrast to Trump, has invited German Chancellor Angela Merkel as the first European leader to visit Washington.
She will be the first European leader to meet with Biden in Washington, as she has been invited by the leaders of Japan and South Korea. The Conservative administration’s closeness to the Trump administration, and in particular the mutual praise of Trump and Boris Johnson for each other, has probably remained in the minds of current members of the Biden administration and influenced their decision to downsize to Britain. During the summit, Boris Johnson called relations with the United States “indestructible,” indicating fears of possible destruction. Prior to his trip to Britain, Biden had expressed “deep concern” about rising tensions in Ireland with Boris Johnson.
Britain is also under pressure from its European allies. French President Emmanuel Macron told the meeting that France’s relations with Britain could only be resumed if Britain fulfilled its obligations under the EU Exit Treaty. This indicates that relations are not in a good condition, which needs to be “restarted”, and that Britain has apparently not fulfilled some of its obligations.
