Terrorists release 800 prisoners in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Prison Service says gunmen attacked a prisoner in Oyo State and released more than 800 prisoners, the third major attack this year.
The crisis of militants, armed elements and terrorists in Nigeria, who have been carrying out intermittent attacks on public and state facilities, continues and is getting worse every day.
The Nigerian Prison Service said in a statement on Saturday evening that gunmen had attacked a prison in Oyo State and released more than 800 prisoners, the third major attack this year.
According to Reuters, the agency said that the incident took place on Friday, adding that the attackers were armed and after shooting at the prison guards, they exploded the walls and entered the prison yard with dynamite.
Of the 800 fugitives, 262 were released, but about 575, all awaiting trial, are still missing, and of the total, only 64 have not escaped.
“While all prisoners awaiting trial were forced to leave the prison, the cells in which the convicts and women prisoners were held were not destroyed,” the Nigerian Prison Service added.
Earlier, a group of militants attacked a market in northwestern Nigeria, setting several vehicles on fire, killing at least 20 people.
