Discovery of a terrorist gang in Tunisia led from Europe
A Tunisian security source has identified a terrorist gang led by two people living in a European country.
Tunisian National Guard spokesman Hossam al-Jababli said a terrorist gang, some of whose members are in a European country, was identified and disbanded.
Al-Jababli added that the gang’s mission was to provide financial support to terrorist elements stationed in the conflict zones of terrorists detained in some refugee camps.
He said the gang was reportedly led by an Arab foreign national and his Tunisian wife, who now resides in a European country.
According to the Rai Al-Youm newspaper, al-Jabbali said that three Tunisian nationals, including two men and a woman, were cooperating with them inside Tunisia, one of whom escaped.
According to the report, during the search of the terrorists’ homes, amounts of Tunisian national currency and currency, as well as amounts of bank and postal documents related to financial transactions were seized.
Al-Jababli also said that the detainees admitted to providing financial support to 15 terrorists with money received from their families.
Under Tunisia’s 2015 Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Money Laundering Act, the country has stepped up its efforts to combat terrorism and its financial resources, especially the prosecution of Tunisian nationals involved in terrorism-related cases.
