A British police officer’s confession that he committed more than 71 dangerous sex crimes over 18 years shocked the country on Monday.
According to this report, 48-year-old British police officer David Carrick pleaded guilty to 49 charges, including rape against 12 women, in court on Monday.
According to The Guardian, police and prosecutors said Carrick abused his position to trick women and then intimidate them into keeping quiet about sexual assaults against them.
The Guardian added that the volume of offenses and crimes committed by this English police officer from 2003 to 2021 has made him one of the blackest perpetrators of sexual crimes in contemporary British criminal history.
Carrick admitted that he told his victims that if they spoke about his sexual assaults, no one would believe them because he was a police officer.
Police and prosecutors said Carrick tried to humiliate and assault his victims, turning a small parking lot into a dark place and forcing some to stay there naked for hours. He also verbally insults women and commits sexual violence against them by calling one of them a slave, including urinating on some of them.
According to the British newspaper Independent, the London police expressed regret for their failure to immediately investigate the complaints, including allegations of rape, that have been made against Carrick.
The London Police also admitted that Carrick should never have been allowed to join the police force and that his offenses and crimes were unprecedented in terms of duration and nature.
