Tel Aviv’s first ambassador to Chad after 50 years of severance.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced the appointment of its first ambassador to Chad after five decades of severance.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that after several decades of severing ties with Chad, Israel announced the resumption of diplomatic relations in early 2019, appointing diplomat Ben Borgel as its first ambassador to Chad.
The Zionist newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth wrote: “Borgel, who is also the Israeli ambassador to Senegal, presented his credentials on Tuesday to Mohamed Idris Dubai, the head of the military council in Chad, to be the first Israeli ambassador to Chad after 50 years of severance.”
The Israeli Foreign Ministry described the move as an important step in strengthening relations between Chad and the regime, which has resumed since 2019.
Former Chadian President Idriss Deby first visited occupied Palestine in late November 2018, and a high-level Israeli delegation visited the Republic of Chad later that year, and officials on both sides discussed resuming relations and normalizing relations. Chad, meanwhile, had severed ties with the Zionist regime 50 years ago due to the occupation of Palestinian territory.
