Jordan: Syria is the inheritor of the Muslim Ummah and must return to the arms of the Arab countries.
The speaker of the Jordanian parliament said that Syria is the heir of the Muslims and that it is time to return to the arms of the Arab countries.
Jordanian Parliament Speaker Abdul Karim al-Dughami stressed that Syria must return to the Arab League.
“We, as the Arab parliament, must put pressure on our governments or ask our leaders to return Syria to the Arab embrace at the upcoming summit in Algeria,” the online newspaper Rai Al-Youm quoted Al-Dughami as saying.
On the sidelines of the Arab Parliament session, he stressed that Syria is the inheritor of the Muslim Ummah and that it is time to return to the Arab embrace.
“Today, we must work on the basis of the victories of the Syrian and Iraqi brothers against the misguided groups, and take steps to unite their nations and their territorial integrity, security and stability,” the Jordanian speaker continued.
Al-Dughami concluded by saying that any interference in the affairs of Iraq and Syria is rejected. The remarks by the speaker of the Jordanian parliament come less than two months after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad telephoned King Abdullah II of Jordan. This is the first contact since the start of the war in Syria.
Jordan recently opened its border crossing with Syria to passengers and trucks. Currently, Jordanian-Syrian relations are moving towards normalization.
